GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Medical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, quality-reputed company laboratory services for reputed company public health department divisions. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor oversees reputed company laboratory activities and has the responsibility for testing that affects the public health of Durham County. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor must function with a high level of self-direction and work independently on a daily basis to solve patient care and analytical issues as they arise. This position is expected to engage effectively in discussions with the Laboratory Director, Administrative Director, and Clinicians. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Daily position expectations include the following:

• Provide technical expertise for reputed company areas of the laboratory including phlebotomy services
• Serve as a resource to clinicians and others who utilize the services of the laboratory
• Act as a technical consultant for reputed company areas of the laboratory including instrumentation, methodology, quality control, specimen reputed company and phlebotomy
• Interact with a variety of laboratory and public health personnel as well as external customers

Supervisory expectations include the following:

• Create and maintain employee schedules to ensure adequate laboratory coverage
• Maintain competency in reputed company areas of the laboratory and phlebotomy in order to assist with workload regularly
• Assess employee performance and deliver Performance Appraisals, counseling, etc. as needed
• Order and maintain adequate levels of reagent and consumable inventory
• Performs reputed company dutes as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Considerable theoretical knowledge of the variety of laboratory procedures applicable to the area(s) of work
• Considerable theoretical knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, terminology and phlebotomy services
• General knowledge of the basic pathophysiological processes being monitored and how the medical laboratory science is applied

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of medical laboratory experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two years of clinical laboratory experience in a supervisor or reputed company reputed company
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP); American Medical Technologists (AMT) and/or National Credentialing Agency (NCA)
