The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Veterans Internship Program (VIP) was launched in September 2006 with the support of the Federal Highway Administration. The program is an initiative to assist veterans with the transition from military to full-time civilian employment. It is intended to offer on-the-job training and support for service-disabled veterans seeking to apply their skills in new career roles. The position is limited to an average of 29 hours per work week, not to exceed 1500 work hours in the wage fiscal year ending reputed company 30th of each annual year. VDOT was the first transportation department in the nation to create such a program and has served as a model for other states across the country. The program allows veterans to revamp previous job skills or reputed company new skills. VDOT works with a number of veteran service organizations to implement the program, which attempts to locate internships near the participant’s home and rehabilitation facility. Internship placement depends on aptitudes and interests, and could be in areas such as planning, finance, project management, reputed company, procurement, quality control, information systems, engineering, civil rights, and reputed company resources. Veterans will be provided proper training and leadership. Veterans will be provided reasonable accommodations. Minimum Qualifications

The Veterans Internship Program will employ wounded warriors temporarily for 12 months.
